Doctors from the Burn Unit - Orthopedics Department, National Children's Hospital received and treated 3 children in the same family in Hanoi who suffered severe burns due to an accident that occurred while the whole family was eating hot pot. One child was playing and accidentally got caught in the electric wire of the boiling hot pot, causing the pot to flip over and spill boiling water on all 3 children, causing severe burns.
Immediately after the accident, the children’s relatives quickly provided first aid and took them to the National Children’s Hospital for treatment. After examination, doctors diagnosed that all three children had second-third degree boiling water burns on their shoulders, arms, legs, etc.
Immediately after being admitted to the hospital, the children received emergency treatment according to a specialized treatment regimen: Sedation, pain relief, fluid replacement, cleaning of burns, debridement of damaged skin areas and wound dressing with specialized gauze that has antiseptic, pain-relieving and skin-regenerating effects, etc.
Fortunately, thanks to being taken to the hospital in time and treated properly, the children's health stabilized and they were discharged early.
Doctors clean the burn, cut and clean the damaged skin area and bandage it with specialized gauze that has antiseptic, pain-relieving and skin-regenerating effects for the child.
Specialist Doctor II Phung Cong Sang - in charge of the Burn Unit, Orthopedics Department, National Children's Hospital said that burns caused by boiling water in young children often cause deep damage, easily leave scars and have long-term effects on motor function. Timely and proper treatment immediately after the accident plays an important role in reducing the extent of damage and limiting sequelae.
Doctor Sang also warned that in young children, accidents can happen at any time if adults are not careful, especially meals using hot pots, soup pots or hot food will always have a high risk of causing burns.
Therefore, parents and caregivers need to pay attention: Do not let children play near areas where hot pots or stoves are in operation; place hot pots in a secure position, away from the edge of the table or places where electrical wires can easily get tangled; minimize the number of children sitting near hot cooking areas; carefully supervise children during meals.
In situations where children are unfortunately burned by boiling water, proper first aid immediately after the accident occurs is an important factor in reducing the extent of damage and increasing the child's ability to recover.
