Opening a new phase of more effective cooperation between Vietnam and Angola

According to the special correspondent of VNA, within the framework of the State visit to Angola, at noon on August 7 local time, right after concluding the talks and witnessing the signing and exchange of cooperation documents, President Luong Cuong and Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço met with the press to inform about the results of the talks.

Speaking at a press conference, Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço warmly welcomed President Luong Cuong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay a state visit to the Republic of Angola.

Emphasizing that this is a moment of great significance, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and also the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence, President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço affirmed that Angola always remembers and is proud that Vietnam was the second country to recognize Angola's independence, an extremely noble gesture.

Highlighting that the visit of President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to Angola further strengthens the friendship between the two countries, President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço affirmed that the two sides have many similarities, both in the past struggle for national independence and the difficult period of building and developing the country. On that basis, the two sides promote the bilateral relationship to a new height. In the development process, Angola wishes to cooperate with Vietnam for mutual development.

The Angolan President stressed that both sides acknowledged that development cooperation has made significant progress, but compared to its potential, its goals and expectations are still modest. Therefore, both sides expressed their desire to promote cooperation, especially in the areas of social security, education and health.

With the signing of seven cooperation documents during this visit, President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço hopes that in the coming time, the two countries will further promote cooperation in the fields of security, defense, fisheries, and investment; at the same time, he hopes that Vietnam will cooperate and create conditions to help Angola develop agricultural tools, machinery and equipment, and other areas in agricultural production development, especially household farming.

President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço said he respectfully accepted President Luong Cuong's invitation to visit Vietnam in the near future and assigned the relevant agencies of both sides to make arrangements through diplomatic channels.

For his part, President Luong Cuong respectfully thanked President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, the leaders and people of Angola for the warm, respectful and friendly welcome given to the President, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation during their State visit to the beautiful and hospitable country of Angola.

The President announced that he had a very successful meeting with the President of Angola, with comprehensive discussions and high consensus on directions and measures to open a new phase of cooperation between the two countries, more extensive and effective.

According to the President, the two sides agreed to continue promoting the traditional good friendship, supporting and helping each other for mutual development, for the prosperity of the people of the two countries, for peace and stability in the two regions as well as in the world; at the same time, maintain regular high-level visits and contacts through all channels; coordinate to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms and study the establishment of specialized cooperation subcommittees in areas of mutual interest.

In terms of economy, based on the great potential for cooperation as well as new strengths and capabilities, to create more favorable conditions for the two countries' strong products to penetrate each other's markets, the President emphasized that the two sides agreed to increase the sharing of investment opportunities, creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to participate in projects in priority areas, especially agriculture, oil and gas, energy, information technology, etc. Along with that, continue to promote cooperation in traditional areas such as education - training, health, agriculture. In the coming time, the two countries will strengthen cooperation in potential areas such as defense, information technology, science - technology, digital transformation, green transformation, etc.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, according to the President, the two sides will closely coordinate and share their stances on regional and international issues at multilateral forums such as the African Union (AU), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement, etc. The two sides agreed to promote the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, not using or threatening to use force on the basis of respect for international law and the UN Charter. Vietnam highly appreciates Angola's role as Chair of the AU in 2025 and initiatives to promote peace, security and stability in Africa.

The President and the President of Angola welcomed the signing of cooperation agreements between ministries, sectors and enterprises in the fields of security, justice, television, trade, oil and gas, etc.; as well as the positive results achieved in the recent exchange between the ministers of the two countries.

President Luong Cuong suggested that ministries and sectors of both sides actively implement the signed agreements as well as the orientations agreed upon by the two leaders, thereby further promoting the cooperative partnership for mutual development, making the Vietnam-Angola relationship a model for South-South cooperation, practically serving the development needs and interests of the two countries.

On this occasion, Vietnam requested Angola to continue to pay attention to, ensure security and safety, and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community and businesses to live, work, and operate stably in Angola.
