Ho Chi Minh City: Piloting advanced artificial intelligence training for students

On the afternoon of July 23, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of Ho Chi Minh City organized a pilot training course on artificial intelligence (AI) for more than 200 students who won prizes in competitions in the city.

In the context that artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming one of the key fields, having a strong influence on all aspects of life, economy and society, training and equipping the student generation with knowledge about AI has become an urgent task.

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, hopes that through organizing pilot classes, the City can early discover young talents and promptly nurture them, gradually forming a quality technology workforce, contributing to the sustainable development and breakthroughs in science and technology in the locality.

“In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City is oriented towards science and technology as a new driving force to promote sustainable development and growth. The city has built a strategy for developing artificial intelligence from now until 2030 such as: Issuing policies, training human resources, building ecosystems, infrastructure related to AI... Currently, together with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Education and Training is also building a standard curriculum framework on AI for application and inclusion in teaching in schools and continuing education,” Mr. Thang added.

The Department of Science and Technology added that the opening ceremony will kick off a series of training activities with a scale of 4 classes. Of which, 2 classes are for middle school students with the theme "Discovering AI with Python". The program focuses on basic programming knowledge, simple algorithms and small AI application projects, helping students get acquainted with technological thinking early.

The remaining two classes are for high school students, with the topic of “Python Programming and Practical Applications”. Students will be exposed to AI models such as Machine Learning, data processing, problem-solving thinking development, and project presentation skills.

In total, 203 students were admitted, including 113 high school students and 90 middle school students. These students come from typical schools in the city such as: High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City National University (VNU-HCM), Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Le Hong Phong High School, Tran Phu Middle School, Le Quy Don Middle School, Saigon Practice School, and many other public, private and international schools.
