Farewell to many assistants after ASEAN Cup 2024
Right after winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup, goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae was the first to leave the Vietnamese team . Mr. Lee Woon Jae's departure made many people regretful, even though they knew that the former Korean goalkeeper's contract with the VFF was only "seasonal", lasting about 2 months.
With extensive experience (having gone down in history with 4 World Cups in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010 with the Korean team), goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae is the one who has important advice for head coach Kim Sang Sik, including the decision to give the starting position to Dinh Trieu instead of Nguyen Filip.

Coach Kim Sang Sik also admitted that goalkeeping coach Lee Woon Jae helped him a lot in his professional work. Before each match, Mr. Kim asked his fellow countryman assistant about the personnel issue in the goal of the Vietnamese team. At the ASEAN Cup, Dinh Trieu appeared in 6/8 matches, and Coach Kim Sang Sik's decision to use the goalkeeper of Hai Phong Club was completely correct.
After goalkeeper coach Lee Woon Jae, coach Kim Sang Sik continued to say goodbye to interpreter Lee Seong Joo and two physical therapists Choi Sung Rak and Yoo Seung Min. Among them, Mr. Choi Sung Rak and Yoo Seung Min helped the Vietnamese players cope with the dense competition schedule at the 2024 ASEAN Cup, while Mr. Lee Seong Joo's role was also highly appreciated when he took on the task of interpreting Korean to English for the Vietnamese team.
In addition, team leader Doan Anh Tuan also resigned from his duties in the Vietnam team. Mr. Tuan is considered the "general manager" of the team, taking care of all logistical issues.
Will the new assistants be signed long term?
Although they only worked for a short time, the Korean assistants all completed their tasks well for the Vietnam team. Among those who left, the VFF and Coach Kim Sang Sik regret the most is the goalkeeper coach Lee Woon - who is both highly skilled and very dedicated.
In the coming time, VFF and Coach Kim Sang Sik will have meetings to find quality assistants for the Vietnam team. There is information that the additional assistants will still be Korean, but will be signed to longer-term contracts.

The reason is because the Vietnamese team will participate in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, which will last for 1 year, in addition to the training sessions of the U22 and U23 teams to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers.
Currently, Coach Kim Sang Sik's close assistants include Mr. Choi Won Kwon - who is considered his right-hand man, fitness expert Yoon Dong Hun, interpreter Do Anh Van (Korean to Vietnamese), and 2 Vietnamese assistants Dinh Hong Vinh and Luu Danh Minh.
With a dense plan in 2025, the number of assistants of Coach Kim Sang Sik will be larger than in 2024. But what VFF and Coach Kim care about is that the new assistant team must meet criteria such as good expertise, proficiency, closeness with team members, and ability to withstand pressure.
