Hepatitis B vaccination for newborns should be given within 24 hours of birth.

Vaccination against hepatitis B for children within the first 24 hours and completion of three doses of vaccine according to the national immunization schedule is a strategy of the World Health Organization to prevent transmission of hepatitis B virus from mother to child.

The first vaccination helps protect newborns from many dangerous infectious diseases such as hepatitis B and tuberculosis.

To ensure safe hepatitis B vaccination, delivery rooms at medical facilities must have separate injection rooms or vaccination tables, a warm enough vaccination area for children; a place to examine and classify children, and provide counseling for mothers or children's relatives; adequate vaccination equipment, safety boxes, anti-shock medicine boxes, and anti-shock protocols at the injection site.

In addition, the heads of medical facilities shall assign specific staff in charge of hepatitis B vaccination for newborns. At least two medical staff shall be trained in vaccination at each vaccination site, ensuring rotation in vaccination of newborns. In addition, medical staff shall provide consultation, health check-up, indication, injection and post-injection monitoring, and instruct the child's family members to monitor post-injection reactions.

Viral hepatitis is a common infectious disease that causes serious health consequences.

Acute hepatitis virus infection is often asymptomatic or may present with unclear symptoms. Severe cases can cause acute liver failure or progress to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.

There are five types of viral hepatitis, of which hepatitis B and C are transmitted through blood and body fluids, similar to the transmission route of HIV; hepatitis D is only transmitted in the presence of hepatitis B, and has a similar transmission route. Hepatitis A and E are transmitted through the fecal-oral route through food, drinking water and inadequate hygiene practices.
