Ukraine exhausted on the front line, calls on allies for aid

According to the US news agency National Review, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are too exhausted to conduct combined arms combat operations on the front line.

The author of the article notes that the Ukrainian army has now significantly weakened. The AFU had to abandon the NATO-standard combined arms combat tactics due to lack of resources and inability to adapt to it.

At the same time, some of Ukraine’s allies are no longer willing to supply Kiev with weapons. In addition, the US will need years to replenish its ammunition stockpiles. This shortage arises against the backdrop of the protracted conflict in Eastern Europe.

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Alexander Syrsky, announced the difficult situation for Kiev in many military areas and the need for constant changes to adapt to the war.

Speaking about the military aid packages for Ukraine from the US and Western allies, President Volodymir Zelensky emphasized that the above move is "incomprehensible and unforgettable".

He warned that “the world will remember” what is happening now. The head of state also spoke out about the delay in military aid from the allies. The Ukrainian president stressed that Kiev did not ask them for anything other than what was necessary for their protection. Accordingly, while Ukrainians are dying, their partners are “engaged in internal political games or disputes.”

“The current situation is difficult to understand,” the Ukrainian President stressed.

The Ukrainian leader has repeatedly spoken out about the consequences of the US withdrawal of aid. In particular, he warned that without Washington’s support, the AFU would not be able to hold its current line. Volodymir Zelensky said that the Ukrainian people would always be ready, but not ammunition and weapons; and argued that the lack of help from Washington makes the threat of losing Ukraine’s people and territory more real.

In a conversation with US senators, the Ukrainian president stressed that Ukraine would face defeat in the conflict without US help. According to US Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Ukrainian president assured that the loss of Kiev would have catastrophic consequences not only for the Ukrainian people, but also for the US and world democracy.

In addition, the Ukrainian President also threatened Washington that it would no longer be Kiev's strategic partner if it stopped supporting and proposed resuming aid packages within the next month.

Volodymir Zelensky also expressed doubts that the US really wants to help Ukraine and is not using the current conflict as a way to weaken Russia. However, he admitted that Kiev has no plan B in case the US stops providing aid to Kiev.

The last US military aid package worth $250 million was delivered to Ukraine in late December 2023. The US Congress has been unable to agree on further assistance for Ukraine for the past several months.

In early February 2024, the US Senate failed to pass a $60 billion aid bill for Ukraine, meaning Kiev will not receive aid for several months.

Washington is seeking a compromise with the US Senate on a bill to provide aid to Ukraine, Israel and protect the southern border for $118 billion. Accordingly, $60 billion is proposed for Ukraine, $14.1 billion for Israel, $20.23 billion for strengthening the country's southern border and $2.44 billion for operations against the Houthi movement in Yemen.

US President Joe Biden has said that Kiev will face dire consequences if it does not allocate a new aid package. The White House is now unable to resume military assistance to Ukraine without congressional approval.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that Republicans would not support a bill providing additional funding to Ukraine in future votes.
