According to Neowin , the Dota 2 community is about to have easier and smoother matches as Valve is shifting its focus to cracking down on players who engage in smurfing behavior. The company recently revealed that a major ban wave has just occurred, causing more than 90,000 accounts to be 'disappeared', and this is also a warning from Valve to anyone with similar intentions.
Valve is banning accounts with unbalanced behavior in Dota 2
Smurf is a term used in the gaming industry to describe the actions of experienced players who create new accounts to participate in matches for beginners, thereby easily winning. In addition, Smurf accounts are also exploited to create game-breaking behaviors, the most typical of which is AFK (exiting the game in the middle of the match).
"Dota is a game that is best enjoyed when played on a fair playing field. The quality of thinking of the players in a given match is what makes a good match. And smurfing has made matches worse," Valve said.
While the recent wave of bans appears to have targeted only secondary or spam accounts, Valve says it has also been tracking down the real owners behind the Smurfs. "In the future, a primary account found to be associated with a Smurf account may receive a range of penalties, from temporary adjustments to behavior scores to permanent account bans," the company says.
Toxic behavior in Dota 2 is being dealt with
Earlier this year, Valve also cracked down on cheaters in Dota 2. They used a new method called 'honeypot' to catch players using cheats. The move resulted in over 40,000 accounts being banned at the time.
