(CLO) A suicide bombing at a train station in southwestern Pakistan on Saturday killed at least 25 people. A separatist militant group in the area claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said in a statement that 53 more people were wounded in the attack in the city of Quetta. “The blast at the railway station was a suicide bombing,” the statement said.

Police chief Muhammad Baloch said the blast occurred at a platform at the city’s main railway station around 9 a.m. Saturday. “There were a lot of passengers on the platform when the explosion occurred,” Baloch said.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a militant group operating in the area, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
"There was a lot of chaos. People were running around, people were lying dead, some people had lost their legs, arms and hands," Fareed, a witness to the explosion, told CNN.

A senior local government official said those killed included passengers, railway staff and security personnel.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and are investigating. Provincial Minister Sarfraz Bugti has ordered an investigation into the incident. In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack.
The insurgency in Balochistan has been going on for decades but has become more intense in recent years, since the province's deep-water port of Gwadar was leased to China.
The BLA has been responsible for some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan this year, most recently in October when it targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers and investors in the city of Karachi, killing two Chinese nationals.
