* US newspaper: VSU suffered heavy losses in Rabotino: The New York Times on September 21 said that the counterattack in the village of Rabotino, Zaporizhzhia province caused great losses to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU). Accordingly, the price paid for the VSU to retake the village of Rabotino was "not commensurate with the area of land captured" and the losses will only increase in the context of the risk of reduced Western support.

“The currency of the counteroffensive is ammunition, vehicles and human lives,” the paper wrote. The authors also noted the “enormous risk” facing Ukraine, as without decisive successes, Western support could wane and Kiev could face pressure to negotiate a ceasefire.

* Ukraine warns of difficultwinter : “Difficult months are ahead: Russia will attack energy and critical infrastructure,” Oleksiy Kuleba, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, said on September 21. He said Moscow had targeted “civilian infrastructure” across Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities confirmed that power cuts had occurred across the country, in nearly 400 cities, towns and villages, but it was “too early” to know whether this was the beginning of a new campaign launched by Moscow against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

* President Zelensky raised “top issues” with Ukraine: On September 21, writing on Telegram right after arriving in Washington (USA), President Volodymyr Zelensky stated: “Today, I will have important negotiations in Washington. Air defense for Ukraine is one of the top issues, it is necessary to strengthen air defense, provide more support for Ukrainian soldiers in the field”.

He criticized the “massive” overnight Russian attack that killed many people in Kherson, southern Ukraine, and injured many others in other regions. “Most of the missiles were shot down. But only most. Not all,” Zelensky stressed. He also thanked countries that had “provided Ukraine with missile defense systems,” saying: “We are working to completely eliminate the Russian threat… We must achieve this result.”

For his part, during talks with his Ukrainian counterpart at the White House, US President Joe Biden announced a new $325 million military aid package for Kiev. Washington's package includes upgrading air defense capabilities, cluster munitions, artillery, anti-tank weapons and other equipment. Starting next week, the US will deliver the first Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine.

This is the fourth US military aid package to Ukraine in six weeks and is unrelated to the $24 billion military aid package the Biden administration is seeking from Congress, said Amanda Sloat, senior director for European affairs at the National Security Council . The new aid package does not include long-range ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions. However, Biden did not rule out providing such weapons to Ukraine in the future.
