In recent years, in Cam Khe district, there have been more and more examples of dynamic women who dare to think, dare to do, apply science and technology, effectively exploit the available potential in the locality to develop the economy and reduce poverty sustainably. Ms. Hoang Thi Hop - born in 1971 in Mo Son area, Son Tinh commune is one of the typical examples.

Meeting her when she had just returned from the field and was busy in the kitchen preparing lunch for her family, we clearly felt the diligence of this rural woman in the mountainous region. Quickly putting the kettle on the stove, she warmly invited guests to visit her family's yard. The house was solidly built, sturdy, ensuring conditions for family life; the livestock barn was neat, and many fruit trees were planted around the aquaculture pond, creating a clean and airy environment.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hop said that every year her family sells 2 commercial cows and breeds them, bringing in nearly 50 million VND, and sells over 1 ton of fish fry and 500-600 kg of commercial fish, bringing in nearly 250 million VND. After deducting all expenses, her family earns about 200 million VND/year.
It is known that Ms. Hoang Thi Hop's family used to be a poor household in the commune, facing many difficulties due to lack of capital and lack of experience in raising livestock. In 2014, her family received a loan of 30 million VND from the Social Policy Bank Transaction Office of Cam Khe district from the poor household loan. With the motto of taking short-term to sustain long-term, changing ineffective crops and livestock such as from growing one rice crop, one fish crop, to raising fish for breeding; from raising poultry to raising livestock... Along with that, she has applied scientific and technical advances in production to help increase productivity and quality of livestock. Thanks to that, in 2018, her family was removed from the list of poor households in the commune. After 3 years of escaping poverty, the family still has many difficulties, so they continue to be given conditions to borrow 100 million VND in the loan program for newly escaped poverty households.
Sharing her experience in escaping poverty, Ms. Hop said: “After receiving the loan, I discussed with my husband about investing in breeding cows, building barns and digging fish ponds. Thanks to using the capital for the right purpose and having a firm grasp of scientific knowledge through training courses on livestock farming and learning about disease prevention and cleaning barns on mass media, the livestock grew well. With the determination not to accept poverty, my husband and I are now confident in our economic approach to avoid falling back into poverty.”
With diligence, hard work and economic development acumen, Ms. Hoang Thi Hop and her family have risen to develop the economy and sustainably reduce poverty in a land with many difficulties. In addition to working and producing, she also actively participates in the Women's Union and local activities with the desire to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous homeland.
