On the afternoon of February 27, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the press raised many questions about citizen protection work, including asking the spokesperson to provide information about the incident in which a Vietnamese fishing boat collided with a Thai navy ship off the coast of Trat province, resulting in the arrest of four crew members and their vehicle.

Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that so far, she has not received any official information from Thailand about this matter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to work with local authorities to verify and clarify relevant information in order to take necessary citizen protection measures in case Vietnamese fishermen are arrested.

Thousands of foreign nationals are stranded at the Myanmar-Thailand border, waiting to be repatriated after a crackdown on online scam centers in Myanmar. According to Thai authorities, about 7,000 people who worked in scam centers run by criminal gangs are trapped.

Regarding this information, spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that Myanmar authorities are temporarily detaining many foreign citizens, including Vietnamese citizens, after raiding online fraud establishments in the border area between Thailand and Myanmar.

"We are still investigating the specific number. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security on this incident, and has directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Thailand and Myanmar to urgently work with local authorities to verify information about the identity of Vietnamese citizens and promptly take measures to protect and support citizens when necessary," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.

The spokesperson stated that recently, Vietnamese authorities have closely cooperated with authorities in other countries to investigate, clarify and strictly handle violations of the law by Vietnamese citizens abroad in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law and local law.

"We believe that violations of the law must be handled in accordance with the law. Vietnamese authorities have been and will be closely monitoring the situation and are ready to take necessary and timely citizen protection measures for Vietnamese citizens who are victims in these incidents," the spokesperson said.

Over the past few weeks, Thai and international authorities have been working together to dismantle a number of online fraud centers along the border, part of a campaign to shut down criminal organizations that have imprisoned and forced hundreds of thousands of people to participate in cross-border fraud across Southeast Asia.

The Thai Foreign Ministry said authorities are planning to repatriate those rescued, depending on the readiness of embassies and governments of the countries involved.
