The unique design allows the 18 Wheels vehicle to quickly move over obstacles up to 20 centimeters high without significantly losing speed. It can climb over tree trunks, rocks, ledges, and even stairs, New Atlas reported on July 25.

Each wheel of the vehicle is powered by an electric motor. Thanks to an ingenious suspension system, they function much like tank tires. The new vehicle is designed to travel over a variety of terrains without damaging the surface it drives on. The 18 wheels significantly reduce the vehicle's pressure on the ground by spreading its weight over a large area. Meanwhile, the suspension design allows the wheels to fold up and roll over obstacles, further reducing the impact on the terrain.

The concept car was conceived in 2021 and built in 2022, after which testing began. In the test video, this first prototype can be seen climbing over large, rough rock formations, driving through shallow water, and even climbing over tree trunks on the ground without difficulty. The shape of the car is reminiscent of a multi-legged centipede.

The team is working on a second prototype with a more advanced steering and suspension system. The revised version could address some of the minor issues that were revealed during testing, such as a tendency to dive when going over certain obstacles. The first prototypes of the second version are being built and should be ready for mass production once testing concludes later this summer.
