According to Neowin , that makes YouTube TV the largest internet-based pay TV service by a huge margin, far surpassing Hulu Plus Live TV, which has just 4.3 million paid subscribers. YouTube TV has a starting subscription price of $72.99/month.
Although only available in the US, YouTube TV already has 8 million monthly subscribers.
One of the biggest reasons for YouTube TV's growth is the addition of NFL Sunday Ticket in the fall of 2023. The service just wrapped up its first season, allowing pro football fans to watch every Sunday afternoon game. YouTube TV also introduced multi-viewing for sporting events, allowing users to watch up to four games on screen at once.
In a blog post, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan stated that more and more people are watching YouTube content on big-screen TVs. He claimed that 1 billion hours of YouTube content are watched on TV every day. Additionally, according to figures provided by the Nielsen ratings service, YouTube has generated the most watch time of any streaming service in the US over the past 11 months.
Mohan also revealed that YouTube Shorts, a newer feature designed to compete with short-form video services like TikTok, now generates more than 70 billion views per day. Additionally, the number of YouTube channels offering Shorts videos has grown by 50% in the past year.
Last week, Google revealed that YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now have more than 100 million subscribers, including free trials, worldwide. YouTube Music offers ad-free music and music videos, while YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music features along with ad-free viewing of full videos.
