Family Conflicts are inevitable in life. However, the way parents handle these conflicts directly affects children, especially how they deal with conflicts in the future.
To help children develop positive communication skills and self-confidence, parents need to create a stable, loving, and non-violent home environment.
1. Avoid arguing in front of children
Children are very sensitive to arguments between parents. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, an educational psychologist, shared: "When children witness noisy arguments, they tend to be anxious, insecure and have low self-esteem. Therefore, conflict resolution should be done in separate spaces, out of children's sight."
Children are not able to fully understand conflict and may misinterpret it and think that they are the cause of the argument. Make sure your child only sees positive things in the family.
2. Build positive conflict resolution skills
Parents should be role models in resolving conflicts in a positive way. According to Master Vu Thi Lan Anh, lecturer specializing in family education: "Children will learn how to handle conflicts from their parents. When parents present their views calmly, respectfully and try to find consensus, children will learn the skills to listen and resolve conflicts effectively."
Parents can practice conflict resolution steps such as listening to each other's opinions, not using critical words or language, and working together to find a common solution.
3. Ensure consistency in the family
Consistency in the family contributes to a stable and loving environment. When parents agree on family rules, children are more likely to develop a stable mentality and the ability to follow rules.
