Eating pumpkin is good for the intestines

VnExpressVnExpress14/01/2024

Pumpkin contains a lot of soluble fiber pectin which helps balance intestinal microflora, contributes to anti-inflammation and prevents constipation.

According to the US Department of Agriculture , a 100-gram cup of cooked pumpkin contains about 7 grams of fiber.

Pumpkin flesh is rich in pectin, which helps nourish good, healthy bacteria in the gut. This balances the intestinal microflora, boosting immunity against inflammation and gastrointestinal diseases such as enteritis and irritable bowel syndrome. In addition to improving gut health, fiber also supports metabolism and is good for cardiovascular health.

A 2017 study by the University of Aberdeen, UK and several other institutions found that pectin from pumpkin and beetroot helps balance gut microbiota and fight inflammation. Regular consumption of pumpkin helps keep your digestive system healthy. Roast, cook, stew, make pumpkin curry or salad to take advantage of the many nutritional values of this food.

According to a 2020 analysis by the University of Warwick, UK, and several other organizations, based on 376 studies, in addition to the flesh, pumpkin seeds also provide abundant fiber, which is beneficial for the intestines.

Pumpkin seed fiber improves symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and has a positive effect on intestinal motility, preventing and supporting the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Through direct interaction with intestinal bacteria, fiber enhances the production of important microbial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids, thereby improving overall health.

Fiber from pumpkin and other fruits and vegetables also reduces the risk of colorectal cancer. An analysis of 25 studies with 510 participants by the University of Warwick showed that people who ate more plant fiber had a lower rate of this cancer than those who consumed less fiber from fruits and vegetables. People with colon adenoma should add more fiber to their diet to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

According to the University of Texas, USA, eating pumpkin seeds also reduces bedwetting, helps treat intestinal worms, and constipation. This type of seed is also used to support the treatment of asthma. A reasonable daily serving is 28g, equivalent to 150 pumpkin seeds.
