Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecast track of Typhoon Bebinca

The General Department of Hydrometeorology (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) announced the developments of storm Bebinca currently active in the Northwest Pacific .

Forecasts from meteorological agencies show that storm Bebinca will make landfall in eastern China, without affecting Vietnam.

Regarding the possibility of storms appearing in the East Sea, the General Department of Hydrometeorology said that from now until the end of September 2024, there is a possibility of 1-2 storms appearing in the East Sea (likely concentrated in the last 10 days of September) and may affect the Northern and North Central regions. At the same time, this agency warned of a high risk of heavy rain and floods in the Central region during the rainy season in October and November 2024.

The meteorological agency also said that there is currently a tropical convergence zone (low pressure trough) in the East Sea combined with strong southwest monsoon winds that will cause rain in the Central Highlands and the South until September 16. The average rainfall is 40-80mm, with rain concentrated in the afternoon and at night. This type of rain does not have a major impact on the North.

Weather forecast for the North in the next 7 days is mainly little rain, with intermittent sunny days.

Particularly from the night of September 15 to September 17, the Northern region, focusing on the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai , Phu Tho, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, will have moderate rain, with common rainfall of 10-30mm/day, locally heavy rain of over 50mm/day.

Regarding the situation of floods, inundation, and landslides in the coming days, the General Department of Hydrometeorology said: flood water levels in the lower reaches of the Red River are decreasing but are still high, and flooding in low-lying areas along the river will gradually decrease in the coming days.

In which: the water recedes in low-lying areas along the Bui River in Chuong My district from 8-10 days, along the Tich River about 5-7 days, downstream of the Ca Lo River 2-4 days, Nhue River from 2-3 days.

In the areas outside the dike downstream of the Red River - Thai Binh (provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh , Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hai Duong), the water withdrawal time lasts from 3-5 days. For areas that do not actively drain, it may take longer.

In the coming days, when floodwaters recede on river systems, there is a risk of riverbank erosion, especially in places where high flood peaks have just appeared.

Although the rain has now decreased and there is no rain in many places, the risk of landslides remains high, especially on steep slopes in the northern mountainous areas, especially Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang. The reason is that soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.
