Towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital organized a program of free examination and cataract surgery (phaco) for families of policy beneficiaries, war invalids, and veterans in Xuan Hoa ward.

From July 22 to July 25, 2025, the Eye Hospital coordinated with the Xuan Hoa ward authorities to screen and perform surgery on 35 cases of policy families. Among them, many patients are veterans who participated in the Southeast and Southwest battlefields, and are now facing eye problems due to old age or war consequences. Veteran Vu Kim Uoc (born in 1953) shared: “I am very excited to participate in the program. The team of doctors and nurses are very enthusiastic and dedicated, helping us feel secure during treatment.”

Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness in the elderly, especially those who have experienced harsh living conditions during the war. Phaco surgery is a modern, minimally invasive method that helps patients recover their vision quickly. Free support for policy families not only reduces the economic burden but is also a practical act of gratitude for their contributions to the country.

This program is part of the Eye Hospital's traditional activities towards the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27 every year. This is also an occasion for the whole country to remember and pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs who died for national independence. In addition, many other localities also organize charitable activities such as visiting, giving gifts, building houses of gratitude for the families of war invalids and martyrs, contributing to sharing difficulties and encouraging their spirit.

July 27 is also an opportunity for every Vietnamese citizen to express their deep gratitude to the previous generation. Programs such as free surgery by Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital are clear evidence of the spirit of “When drinking water, remember its source”, and at the same time affirm the concern of society for the health and life of those who have contributed to the Revolution.

Meaningful activities like this will continue to be replicated, spreading the spirit of humanity and community responsibility in society. Thereby, contributing to easing the pain of war and bringing a better life to those who sacrificed for the Fatherland./.
