Provincial Hospital of Traditional Medicine effectively implements ESWL technique

Lao Cai Traditional Medicine Hospital has effectively treated nearly 200 patients using extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL).

From March 2024 to the end of June 2025, nearly 200 patients were effectively treated at the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Medicine thanks to the technique of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy under ultrasound guidance.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy under ultrasound guidance is a modern and effective treatment method.

According to specialist doctor I Nguyen Thi Song Huong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Medicine, in charge of the extracorporeal lithotripsy technique, the rate of patients achieving complete or almost complete dissolution of stones after 1-3 treatments is over 80%. This technique is especially effective for kidney stones, upper ureteral stones, and bladder stones measuring 6-25mm.

After shock wave treatment, the patient will be prescribed additional traditional medicine to help with urination, stone removal, and kidney function enhancement to increase recovery effectiveness.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy under ultrasound guidance is a modern, minimally invasive, highly effective treatment method for urinary stones, helping patients avoid surgical intervention, patients recover quickly, can go home the same day after lithotripsy, and resume normal activities; reduce complications and save treatment costs.
