On November 12, King Philippe of Belgium decided to extend the mandate of negotiator Bart De Wever, Chairman of the New Flanders Alliance party, for another two weeks to create conditions to break the current political deadlock.

Belgium is moving towards a possible “Arizona” coalition, with the parties N-VA (New Flemish Alliance), MR (Reform Movement), CD&V (Christian Democratic Party of Flanders), Les Engagés (The Committed) and Vooruit (On the Move) coming together in a majority coalition.

But the Vooruit party's decision to withdraw from negotiations has left the coalition in a deadlock. With only 69 out of 150 seats in the National Assembly , the "Arizona" coalition currently lacks the necessary seats to form a government.

Some members of the coalition still hope to persuade the Vooruit party to return to the negotiating table, but the effort has yet to yield concrete results.

After meeting with King Philippe, Mr. De Wever affirmed that he would make efforts to quickly form a stable government , and called on his partners to keep information confidential during the negotiation process.

The N-VA party chairman stressed that the current budget situation requires drastic actions and that the deadlock cannot be allowed to continue.
