Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism responds to Quang Nam voters about Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery relic

Previously, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism received a petition from voters in Quang Nam province requesting early attention to investing in preserving and restoring the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery relic to promote its historical and cultural values and be worthy of its position as a special national relic ranked by the State.

The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that Dong Duong Buddhist Temple (Thang Binh district) has been ranked as a special national relic according to Decision No. 2499 dated December 12, 2016 of the Prime Minister .

Therefore, it is recommended that the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, based on Decree No. 166 dated December 25, 2018 of the Government stipulating the authority, order, procedures for establishing, appraising, and approving plans and projects for preserving, restoring, and rehabilitating historical-cultural relics and scenic spots, to prepare the planning task and the Plan for restoring and rehabilitating Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery relic, and submit it to competent authorities for consideration and approval.

Also according to the response document, implementing the resolution of the National Assembly and the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the period 2025 - 2035.

On September 13, 2024, authorized by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed and submitted Submission No. 444 to the National Assembly for consideration and expected approval at the 8th session, including the content of the component project on preserving and promoting cultural heritage values.

In the coming time, after the program is approved by competent authorities, based on proposals from localities, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to compile a list of investment projects to preserve and promote the value of cultural heritages; at the same time, request the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to proactively include investment funds for the cultural sector in the local medium-term plans as well as mobilize other legal capital sources for implementation.
