The high embankment that was once leveled, is now not reinforced and continues to slide down to the residential area below.
The positive slope is continuing to slide down into the residential area.

At Group 15, Bac Kan Ward, dozens of cubic meters of rock and soil on the high slope are at risk of sliding down to the residential area below, causing many households living here to worry. Right behind Ms. Ha Thi Nga's house is a slope of soil dozens of meters high, without a retaining wall or reinforcement. Ms. Nga said: The soil has slid down close to my kitchen, making my family very worried during the rainy and stormy season.

Next to Ms. Nga’s house is Ms. Ha Thi Hue’s family, who are also living in constant insecurity. During the 2024 storm season, a large area of land collapsed into her garden, and the family had to hire someone to clean it up. Ms. Hue shared: The land still collapses, even when it’s not raining. I hope the authorities will soon find a solution to fix it so that we can be safe.

According to local residents, this area used to be a high hill, leveled by a company to divide the land into plots for sale. However, after the company withdrew, the high slope was left without any anti-erosion plan or safety measures.

At the scene, the soil showed signs of separation, cracking, and very weak adhesion. Many tree trunks were tilted, indicating that the soil mass continued to shift. There had been no heavy rain in recent days, but the landslides continued.

Currently, there are at least 3 households living in Group 15 that are in a high-risk landslide area. All 3 households have lived there for many years and have no conditions to relocate. The unsafe situation has been repeatedly reported by the residents, but to date there has been no definitive solution.

Faced with the above situation, local authorities and relevant agencies need to promptly inspect and assess the current situation, and have plans to reinforce or evacuate people from dangerous areas. Households also need to proactively take response measures to avoid unfortunate consequences.
