The largest duck farm in the province

Up to this point, the duck farm with a scale of 15,000-16,000 ducks of Mr. Thai Hoa Nam (born in 1982, in Bao Ninh commune, Dong Hoi, Quang Binh ) is known as the largest duck farm in Quang Binh province.

Mr. Nam confided that he is an electrical engineer, graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. In 2018, he worked for a subsidiary of Viettel Group. Being sent to work abroad, he had the opportunity to approach high-tech agriculture in developed countries, from which he nurtured his dream of realizing it in his homeland.

After a period of traveling to many provinces and cities to learn and learn more about animal husbandry, in September 2022, he started raising ducks using high technology at a farm located in Son Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh.

His duck farm has 2 barns with an area of over 2,400m2. Inside each barn, HDPE plastic floors are installed, designed about 90cm above the ground so that the ducks can stay on a high, airy, and clean floor. A food storage, a canteen for workers, a disinfection area,... with a total construction area of over 3,000m2.

In addition, a biogas tank to treat manure and livestock wastewater, has a deodorizing chamber using the method of neutralizing and precipitating H2S and NH3 gases.

To implement high-tech duck farming, most of the stages are invested in automation. The barns are installed with automatic feeding and drinking troughs, and a cooling system to adjust the barn temperature according to each growth stage. He also installed surveillance cameras in the barn and the entire farm to monitor the ducks' activities and development.

According to Mr. Nam, to raise ducks effectively, it is necessary to choose a guaranteed source of breed and follow a strict raising process. Photo: Hai Sam.

Mr. Nam said: "The farm has invested in a system to provide food, water, and automatic air conditioning, and the temperature in the barn is maintained at about 22 degrees. In addition, there are methods for the ducks to relax by listening to music and increasing the movement of the flock with a fan system."

Create jobs for ethnic minorities

Currently, the farm has 4 technical workers who are Kinh people, and about a dozen seasonal workers who are all Van Kieu people, mainly from Cua Merc village, Ngan Thuy commune.

“For the main technical workers, the monthly salary is 15 million VND/person, and for the 4 permanent and seasonal workers, I only recruit ethnic minorities who are poor or near-poor households and are of working age. In addition to the fixed salary, permanent workers will have additional allowances, food allowances... so the monthly income is about 10 million VND,” said Mr. Nam.

To raise ducks effectively, Mr. Nam also cooperated with GreenFeed Vietnam Joint Stock Company. The company provides breeds, feed, farming processes and supports the consumption of products. Cooperating with a unit to ensure output, Mr. Nam needs to have a modern, safe duck farming process and bring good product quality. Therefore, he has researched and studied to create the best living environment for ducks.

From 2021 to now, Mr. Nam's duck farm has been operating effectively, each batch will be sold after 45 days at a price of 49,000 VND/kg, 6 batches are sold each year, after deducting costs, the profit is nearly 1 billion VND.

“Occasionally, during each duck sale, I also give away from a few dozen to 100 ducks to the villagers so that everyone can share and eat them, but they cannot be sold or raised further. I also set up a charity fund to support poor students and ethnic minorities with about 200 million VND each year,” Nam added.
