In response to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) sending a document to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation (TCSG) and posting information on its website reflecting the theft of dozens of tons of pepper and coffee from 5 businesses at Cat Lai port, TCSG has just responded in writing.

Currently, TCSG is coordinating with relevant authorities and units to clarify the case of goods embezzlement. (Photo of a corner of Tan Cang Cat Lai port).

According to TCSG, currently, the functional departments of the Corporation are working with competent units and authorities to verify the information about the shortage of goods provided by VPSA. However, the risk of losing goods occurs at many stages, there is no basis to confirm that the loss of goods occurs at the port.

According to TCSG, the flow of goods moving from the seller's warehouse to the buyer's warehouse must go through stages in the supply chain such as sea transport, to the port of unloading, transport from the port to the importer's warehouse... Therefore, it is necessary to verify to avoid causing misunderstandings as well as affecting TCSG's brand.

The fact that VPSA Association posted information on its website led to many newspapers using this information to publish before there was an accurate conclusion from the authorities, affecting the reputation and brand of TCSG.

Previously, VPSA sent a document to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and TCSG Corporation, reporting that 5 businesses had dozens of tons of pepper and coffee stolen at Cat Lai port. The cases of lost goods occurred from September 2023 to April 2024. VPSA said that the suspicions were "well-founded".

VPSA requested the Vietnam Maritime Administration and TCSG to strengthen supervision and implement necessary professional measures to ensure the safety of businesses' goods when stored at the port.

For cases of reported loss of goods, VPSA recommends working with relevant parties to investigate the incident and respond in writing, with a plan to compensate for the loss of goods, if the incident occurs within the function and responsibility of the port.
