Speaking to reporters, a representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said that they have requested the cross-border e-commerce platform Temu to temporarily stop selling in Vietnam until the licensing process is completed.

“This is because the Department proactively requested Temu to temporarily suspend operations to complete licensing procedures,” a representative of the Department of E-commerce added.

Previously, in October 2024, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy worked with the law firm authorized by Temu in Vietnam. Accordingly, this agency requested Temu to urgently complete the registration procedures with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in November 2024; Urgently post a warning banner on the homepage of the website and application to Vietnamese visitors about the website and mobile application being in the process of registration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade , so that consumers can recognize that Temu has not been licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to provide e-commerce services.

Authorities are strengthening solutions to ensure the operation of cross-border e-commerce platforms in accordance with the law, creating conditions for domestic enterprises to compete fairly.

The competent authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also requested Temu to review and remove illegal trade promotion services, remove all content related to paying commissions according to the hierarchy for marketing services according to the provisions of the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights...

However, by the end of the November 2024 deadline, Temu had not yet completed the licensing registration, so the authorities requested Temu to temporarily suspend operations.

Regarding consumer rights, a representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy added that authorities have advised consumers not to purchase goods on unlicensed applications and e-commerce platforms.

“In reality, if the goods cannot be delivered, Temu will still refund the customers,” he added./.
