On December 21, the leader of the People's Committee of Quynh Phuong Ward (Hoang Mai Town, Nghe An ) confirmed that Mr. Ho Viet Ky (residing in Tan Tien Block, Quynh Phuong Ward) caught a grouper weighing nearly 70kg during a long sea trip.
Mr. Ky owns a large boat, over 24m long, specializing in fishing in the Gulf of Tonkin. The boat has 12 workers and set sail on December 11.

While fishing in the 19th parallel area of the Gulf of Tonkin, workers on Mr. Ky's boat discovered a large grouper caught in the net.
"It took 4-5 of us working together to catch the net. The fish was very big, nearly 70kg. I was also very surprised. In more than 30 years of going to sea, this is the first time I have seen such a big grouper," said Mr. Ky.
On December 20, Mr. Ky’s boat returned to shore. The grouper was purchased by a trader right at the pier for 14 million VND.
On this trip, Mr. Ky harvested mainly squid and some miscellaneous fish. After deducting expenses and labor costs, the ship owner earned nearly 100 million VND. The workers on the ship, after 10 days of work, earned 3-5 million VND/person.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Phuong Ward - grouper is caught all year round. Occasionally, fishermen in the area also catch large grouper, about 30-40kg. However, grouper weighing nearly 70kg like the one caught by Mr. Ky's fishing boat is very rare in the area.
Quynh Phuong Ward is the most populous area in Hoang Mai town, over 90% of residents live on exploitation, fishing, and seafood processing. Currently, the ward's fleet has more than 700 ships, the number of workers participating in seafood exploitation is 3,550 people.
