Mr. Xong Y Sao (99 years old, in Pieng Coc village, Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district, Nghe An ) has a tuft of hair that is considered the most unique and strange in Vietnam. The tuft of hair is nearly 4m long, and Mr. Sao has grown it since he was a child until now, when he is 99 years old.

Recently, Mr. Xong Y Sao was taken by his relatives to Nghe An General Hospital 115 with a diagnosis of a broken left femur. During the examination, what surprised the doctors was his unique and strange tuft of hair.
Mr. Sao has a tuft of hair on top of his head. The tuft of hair is braided, knotted and wrapped around his head in many rounds. The doctors tried to open it and were surprised to see that it was nearly 4 meters long.
Specifically, when removing each hair loop wrapped around Mr. Sao's head, it took two people to straighten the hair. One person in the hospital room tried using a glove to measure the length of the hair, counting more than 19 glove lengths.
Each hand span is about 20cm, including the hair tuft, it is nearly 4m long. The patients in the room were all amazed and delighted when looking at the unique hair tuft of the 99-year-old woman.
After opening it for demonstration, the old lady quickly and skillfully re-wrapped her hair.

After the surgery, Mr. Sao's health has stabilized. He continues to be treated and monitored at Nghe An General Hospital 115.
Although she is 99 years old, she is still very alert. However, Ms. Sao cannot speak Mandarin, so in order to communicate, she has to ask a doctor who knows the local language to interpret.
"Women in the highlands of Nghe An often have the habit of keeping their hair long. I have treated elderly patients in the mountainous areas of Nghe An for many years, but this is the first time I have seen an old woman with such a special tuft of hair," said Dr. Chuong Van Hang.

Talking to the old lady, Dr. Hang said that Mrs. Sao's husband had passed away 3 years ago. Mrs. Sao had 11 children, including 5 boys and 6 girls. She now has 47 grandchildren, and she can't remember her great-grandchildren.
According to the old lady, in the past, people in the village often had the custom of keeping their hair long. Since she was a child, Sao had kept this tuft of hair to maintain her health. According to local custom, if she cut her hair, no one would protect her anymore. The tuft of hair gradually grew longer, so Sao braided it and wrapped it around her head until now. Sao rarely washed her hair or took it out to clean it.

Anh Va Ba Xia (born 2002, grandson of Mr. Sao) said that except for the part of her grandmother's hair that was raised and braided, the surrounding hair was all neatly cut. The cut hair grew back very quickly.
"She has had this hairstyle for a long time, I don't remember clearly. We only know that from the time she grew up until now, we see her still having this hairstyle and the top of her hair is getting longer and longer. Her having long hair is her personal preference and follows the customs of the local people," Mr. Xia shared.
