On the afternoon of June 19, Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan, Head of the Department of Training and Student Affairs, Hue University, informed that the university's Evaluation Council had completed the re-evaluation of the doctoral thesis of Ms. LTAH, (former PhD student in 2013, majoring in Vietnamese History, University of Sciences , affiliated with Hue University) who was accused of plagiarism.

After synthesizing all information from the Council members, Hue University has submitted a report to the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) for consideration.

According to Mr. Lan, Hue University is waiting for the final conclusion from the Ministry of Education and Training, then will take the next steps.

Previously, as Dan Tri reported, on December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training sent a document to Hue University after receiving a report on the results of handling the complaint related to Ms. LTAH's doctoral thesis.

After reviewing the conclusion of the complaint of the Director of Hue University, the Ministry of Education and Training requested the school to re-evaluate the content of Ms. LTAH's thesis, thereby determining the form of discipline for this doctor.

In case the thesis no longer meets the requirements of a doctoral thesis, Hue University needs to consider the responsibility of the council that approved it.

The Ministry of Education and Training requests Hue University to implement the above directive and report back to the competent authority before January 31, 2025.

After receiving instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training, Hue University established a Council to re-evaluate Ms. H's doctoral thesis, consisting of 7 members.

To ensure objectivity, Hue University issued 7 separate decisions for each member of the Council and all members were anonymous.

After re-reading the entire thesis (except for 12 pages that were found to contain plagiarism), each member of the council will send their individual evaluation results to the Council Chairman, who is the leader of Hue University.

From the results of all 7 members, the Chairman of the Council will open a meeting to review, comment, and re-evaluate the entire doctoral thesis accused of plagiarism, then report to the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to Dan Tri reporter's investigation, in mid-July 2024, Hue University received a petition from Mr. NTAP, denouncing the doctoral thesis of Ms. LTAH, working at the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, for plagiarism and misuse of historical materials.

The accused thesis is titled History of Vietnam: The process of formation, development and transformation of royal festivals in Hue from 1802 to 1945, defended at the Doctoral Thesis Defense Council of Hue University on March 23, 2018.

During the verification process, Hue University concluded that Mr. P.'s complaint was true. The content of Ms. H.'s doctoral thesis contained many passages, ideas, and paragraphs that were similar to the published works of other authors, but the author did not cite the source.

Accordingly, the plagiarism error in Ms. H's thesis was determined to be 12 pages. The author also made mistakes in historical data.
