Had the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity at Quang Thanh Secondary School, on the topic of sex education for adolescents. With a friendly, easy-to-understand way of speaking, witty and humorous examples, the content about sex was effectively conveyed by the reporters, attracting the attention of the students. Most of the students commented that this was a very meaningful program, helping us gain more knowledge about reproductive health (RH) for adolescents and young adults (VTN/TN).
Le Thi Hoa, an 8th grader, shared: Adolescence is a sensitive period with many changes in psychology and physiology, especially in reproductive health. I really hope there will be more good and useful programs like this so that we can have more knowledge to protect ourselves and build a healthy lifestyle.
In localities, propaganda and education activities on population and development are carried out synchronously with many diverse and rich forms, such as: Workshops, organizing thematic conferences, mass media, books, newspapers, magazines, leaflets, brochures, billboards, posters, banners, organizing competitions, clubs and extracurricular activities... These activities are always improved and diversified to achieve increasingly higher efficiency. Especially in this period, the form of communication via the Internet through digital platforms is widely applied such as websites, zalo, facebook, instagram... The propaganda content mainly focuses on the guidelines, policies and policies of the Party and State on population work in the new period, population issues: Gender imbalance at birth, population aging, VTN/TN reproductive health, prenatal and newborn screening, early marriage and consanguineous marriage, health care for the elderly, reproductive health, family planning... Communication coordination work is of interest to sectors, mass organizations and localities, many models have been built and implemented effectively such as: The Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department has organized the dissemination of population policies to Party committees at all levels, leaders of mass organizations at all levels. The Youth Union with the model of Young Family Club, VTN Reproductive Health Club, Pre-marital Club; Many schools display paintings, photos, and communication materials about population and reproductive health. The Women's Union with its movement to build clubs and groups of women who do not have a third child... has contributed significantly to conveying propaganda messages about population work to the masses.

Identifying population and development work as one of the important tasks, Sam Son Medical Center has issued documents directing the strengthening of population work in the new situation; promoting the implementation of projects and programs on improving population quality, directing the construction and maintenance of a model of villages with no third or more children; strengthening communication activities on mass media with diverse content and forms of communication. At the same time, promoting propaganda and direct mobilization in the community through the population work team. With the motto "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every subject", the population work team has focused on propaganda so that all people understand the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's policies and laws on population work in the new situation. Thanks to that, it has strongly changed people's awareness and behavior in implementing population and development policies in the area.
Ms. Nguyen Van Anh, Hung Thong quarter, Sam Son ward shared: When I was pregnant, I was advised by the commune health worker to do newborn screening to know if my baby was developing normally or not. Right after the baby was born, my baby had blood taken from the heel of the medical staff to test for some diseases as advised by the doctor. My family was very happy to know that the results of my baby's indicators were all safe.

Along with propaganda work, the Provincial Department of Population has effectively implemented programs, projects and plans to improve population quality. Typically, the prenatal and newborn screening project implemented throughout the province has created demand and changed people's behavior in accessing and participating in prenatal and newborn screening services, contributing significantly to reducing the rate of children born with disabilities and deformities and increasing the rate of children receiving early intervention and treatment for congenital diseases and disabilities, thereby contributing to improving population quality. The Department of Population has organized 16 training courses on communication skills for nearly 1,000 population officers and collaborators. Coordinated with the Central Obstetrics Hospital and the Provincial Obstetrics Hospital to organize 21 basic and advanced ultrasound training courses; training on taking blood samples from newborn heels for more than 1,000 doctors. In the period 2017-2025, 56,263 children had their heel blood samples taken for testing, of which 1,156 were suspected of having the disease and were consulted for examination and timely treatment. In the program, 152,489 pregnant mothers received prenatal ultrasound screening.
With the Pre-marital Health Checkup and Counseling activity, the units have organized health checkups and provided advice on the risks of giving birth to children with disabilities and malformations for men and women preparing for marriage, organized club activities, gave talks and wrote propaganda articles on mass media. The model has raised awareness for Party committees and local authorities on population work, reproductive health care/family planning for those of adolescent/young adult age; helped those preparing for marriage improve their understanding of psychological knowledge for married life; detected and treated early some diseases that affect sex and pregnancy; implemented effective family planning and prevented congenital malformations for future children, prepared women for the best health conditions for safe pregnancy and childbirth; enhanced parental responsibility, raised healthy children, taught good children...
Implementing the project to enhance counseling and provide population-family planning services for adolescents and young people, we have copied leaflets, built panels, printed books, written articles on reproductive health/family planning, friendship, love, safe and healthy sex, and age-appropriate contraceptive methods for adolescents and young people; organized extracurricular activities for students of junior high and high schools in the project-beneficiary areas, 2 activities/clubs/year... From there, we have contributed significantly to raising awareness of all classes of people about reducing births, reproductive health care, care for adolescents and young people, the elderly, controlling gender imbalance at birth, and gradually improving population quality.

Implementing the Health Care Program for the Elderly in Thanh Hoa Province until 2030, the province has established and guided activities at 547 "Health Care for the Elderly" Clubs; organized training, coaching, and professional development for collaborators, volunteers, and commune health workers in charge of population work; the rate of elderly people in the province receiving periodic health check-ups once a year has now reached 75%.

With the synchronous implementation of many solutions, population work in the province has achieved many encouraging results, basically meeting the requirements of population work and development in the new situation. However, population work still has difficulties and challenges: the sex ratio at birth is still high; the birth rate is significantly different between target regions; there is a trend of low birth rate; the population structure has shifted to an aging population structure... Mr. Le Ba Thang, Deputy Head of the Provincial Population Department, said that to solve the difficulties and challenges, to implement the proposed goals, tasks and solutions, not only the population sector with synchronous solutions but also requires the participation of all levels, sectors, localities, and units to implement comprehensive and synchronous solutions to solve problems of population size, structure, distribution, quality and put in the relationship of interaction with the socio-economic development of the province.
