Online tax negotiations: US considers reciprocal tax policy suitable for Vietnam's conditions

On the morning of June 20, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a statement on the online ministerial-level negotiation session on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the US.

Accordingly, within the framework of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the US, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session simultaneously with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer online at 9:00 p.m. on June 19 (Vietnam time).

In an open, friendly and constructive atmosphere, the ministers spent time discussing solutions and directions for handling the main outstanding issues in the negotiations. Minister Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals made by Minister Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to promote the negotiation process.

Accordingly, the Minister of Industry and Trade continued to request the US side to consider areas of interest to Vietnam, including reciprocal tax policies and market access for some key export groups of Vietnam.

In addition, Minister Dien emphasized Vietnam's view on wanting to work with the US to build harmonious, practical rules of origin that are suitable to the characteristics of the global supply chain, ensuring non-discrimination and creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries.

Secretary Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer appreciated Vietnam's efforts and goodwill in addressing issues of US concern. These will help the US consider a reciprocal tax policy appropriate to Vietnam's specific conditions and circumstances.

Accordingly, both Secretary of Commerce Lutnick and Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer affirmed the US's desire and determination to negotiate with Vietnam towards an agreement that suits the interests of both countries.

Chief US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the US Trade Representative (USTR) will soon complete and send back to Vietnam the necessary documents so that the two sides can focus on discussions towards results that are in line with the interests of Vietnam and the US.
