The diamond is also believed to be one of the largest diamonds in the world after the 3,106-carat Culliman diamond discovered in South Africa in 1905.
Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corporation has announced the discovery of the extraordinary diamond, saying it was found intact at its Karowe mine. They said it was a remarkable find for the company and they celebrated the event.
Using modern X-ray search technology, Mega Diamond Recover company discovered, mined and found this diamond.
The rough diamond will be graded according to color, clarity, size and shape, said William Lamb, Lucara's CEO and chairman of the board.
Before this diamond was discovered, the world's second-largest diamond was the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona, found by Lucara at its Karowe mine in 2015. It was sold to luxury jewelry company Graff for $53 million two years ago.
The company has found six of the world's 10 diamonds, a company spokesman said. The newly discovered diamond will be valued in the coming weeks.
Last month, Botswana, the world's largest diamond producer, proposed a law that, once a diamond is certified, mining companies must sell 24% of their shares to local investors unless the government exercises its right to buy back the shares.
The world's largest diamond is the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond, found in 1905 at the Premier mine in Transvaal, now South Africa. The diamond was cut into several smaller stones, some of which were made into the British crown jewels.
