Auction to import 126,000 tons of sugar in September 2024

The 2024 sugar import tariff quota is 126,000 tons, which will be allocated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade through an auction in September 2024.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will organize an auction to import 126,000 tons of sugar in September 2024.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a decision on the organization of the allocation of import tariff quotas for sugar in 2024.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), this quota will be allocated through auction, based on the provisions of the Law on Foreign Trade Management 2017, Decree No. 69/2018/ND-CP, and Circular No. 11/2022/TT-BCT.

The total quantity of import tariff quota for sugar (HS code 17.01) allocated this year is 126,000 tons.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to carry out necessary work to organize the allocation of import tariff quotas for sugar in 2024.

Along with that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also issued Decision No. 2227 on the establishment of the Council for allocating import tariff quotas for sugar in 2024 by auction method.

The Council consists of 8 members. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan is the Chairman of the Council. Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department is the Vice Chairman of the Council. The members are representatives of a number of departments and agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the General Department of Customs ( Ministry of Finance ).

Last year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized an auction to allocate import tariff quotas for 119,000 tons of sugar, with 8 enterprises winning bids to import 107,000 tons of sugar at the auction.

Of which, 5 enterprises are: Vietnam Sugar Joint Stock Company, Thanh Thanh Cong - Bien Hoa Joint Stock Company, Bien Hoa Consumer Goods Joint Stock Company, Bien Hoa - Ninh Hoa Sugar One Member Co., Ltd. and Lam Son Sugar Joint Stock Company are assigned an import quota of 20,000 tons each.

The remaining 3 enterprises, including: Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company was assigned 5,000 tons, Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam Joint Stock Company 1,000 tons, Kinh Do Northern One Member Co., Ltd. 1,000 tons.
