2024 also witnessed a rapid increase in scams, from traditional methods, now "upgraded" to more sophisticated new scenarios.

The Vietnamese Cyber Security Community Forum Whitehat has just reviewed popular online scams that will trap many users in 2024.

Bank fraud, fake shipper

The first is the trick of impersonating shippers and online transactions. This is a scam that makes shoppers when the fake shipper announces that the delivery has been successful. Then, the customer is asked to transfer payment but in fact it is to steal money, along with the risk of personal information leakage.

Second is bank fraud. Fake websites of major banks in Vietnam have become a tool to trick victims into providing account information. Not only that, bad guys also use the "wrong money transfer" trick to lure victims into more sophisticated scenarios, thereby draining all the money in the account.

Third is the nightmare of "skills summer camps" for children. Seizing the need to develop skills for children, scammers create fake "summer camp" websites/fanpages to lure parents to transfer money or perform virtual tasks. As a result, parents lose money and children receive no benefits.

Financial investment scam, virtual tickets, virtual visa

Fourth, fake tickets at major concerts and events. 2024 is the year of the explosion of large and quality music shows, but also the situation of fake ticket fraud. Fraudsters not only sell tickets on fake websites but also take advantage of social networks to conduct "ticket hunting" transactions at unreasonably high prices, causing many people to fall into the trap.

Fifth is the fraud of exporting labor and "fake" visas. With the trick of promising "quick visa issuance" or "exporting labor without checking documents", fake social media accounts lure victims to provide personal information and transfer money in advance. The result is that users' personal information is stolen, money is lost, and visas or job opportunities are nowhere to be seen.

Sixth is psychological attacks from financial investment to online dating. Taking advantage of greed or lack of affection, scammers launch tricks such as inviting financial investment, virtual currency with "huge" profits or online dating with sweet promises. After "pouring honey into the ears" and enticing the victim to transfer money, they disappear without a trace, leaving the victim stunned and not knowing who to call.
