This was a particularly serious waterway accident that killed 39 people and rescued 10, causing heavy damage to people and property.
According to the insurance companies' reports, as of July 30, the total amount expected to be paid for the incident was VND23.4 billion. Of which, non-life insurance is expected to pay about VND3.3 billion, including: VND1.2 billion from the ship owner's civil liability insurance for passengers and crew accident insurance (Bao Long); VND1.1 billion from passenger accident insurance co-insured by Bao Viet with PTI, MIC and BSH; and VND1 billion from credit insurance of AAA company.
In the life insurance sector, the total expected payout is VND20.1 billion. Of which, Manulife is expected to pay the largest amount with VND7.62 billion, followed by Generali VND6.25 billion, AIA VND4.04 billion, Bao Viet VND1.2 billion, Dai-ichi Life VND0.72 billion, Prudential VND0.23 billion and Shinhan Life VND0.08 billion.
Immediately after the accident, insurance companies proactively approached, coordinated with and guided the victims' families to carry out procedures for payment and insurance advances. The Insurance Management and Supervision Department actively monitored, urged and supported the compensation process, ensuring that insurance benefits were settled promptly, fully and in accordance with legal regulations. At the same time, the Vietnam Insurance Association also coordinated with businesses to implement humanitarian support measures according to internal regulations and relevant legal regulations.
