Sand dunes serving tourism in Quang Phu are fenced with… bamboo stakes

A sand hill serving tourism in Nam Trach commune (Quang Tri, formerly Nhan Trach commune, Bo Trach district, old Quang Binh) was fenced off by a business with bamboo poles and ropes... making locals and tourists surprised and upset.

On the morning of July 16, people in Nam Trach commune (Quang Tri) reported that Quang Phu sand hill, a famous natural tourist destination, had ropes and bamboo stakes placed along the sandbank, causing loss of aesthetics and affecting the experience of tourists.

According to the scene, a bamboo fence was erected along the sand dune, and bulldozers were leveling the ground. Local resident Pham Ngoc Long said the stake-driving took place from the afternoon of July 15 and lasted until the next morning. Many tourists have also expressed dissatisfaction with the situation.

Regarding the incident, Gosimco Management Capital Company Limited confirmed that it is implementing a project to temporarily exploit sand sliding experience services in the above-mentioned area. This unit said that on July 15, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province and related agencies handed over land, determined landmarks and boundaries for the company to implement the tourism project with a total area of 48,000 m².

According to Mr. Ho Xuan Ninh (Company Director), the bamboo fence is to determine the boundary of the assigned land, avoid encroachment from outside and serve the project management. He affirmed that this form is "in accordance with regulations".

However, the local authorities did not fully agree. Mr. Doan Ngoc Nhan, Vice Chairman of Nam Trach Commune People's Committee, said that he had sent officials and police to the scene to assess the situation. Mr. Nhan emphasized that the Commune People's Committee did not agree with the current method of erecting bamboo fences and had advised the enterprise on the need to coordinate with local service providers to ensure efficiency and harmony in tourism exploitation.
