The American company WaveAerospace developed the Huntress II Turbojet, a four-rotor drone equipped with a jet engine in the middle of the New Atlas on January 30. According to WaveAerospace, this is the world's fastest multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

The Huntress II Turbojet is large, measuring 4 m (13 ft) across from rotor to rotor. It weighs around 50 kg (110 lb), depending on the amount of jet fuel it carries, and has a maximum takeoff weight of 165 kg (350 lb). This means it can carry large and heavy cargo when needed. The Huntress II Turbojet is designed to be ready for a mission in less than 90 seconds. It can be deployed quickly, whether launched from land, sea, or dropped from aircraft at altitudes of up to 6,000 m (20,000 ft).

The Huntress II Turbojet has a maximum flight time of about 2 hours. The operator can watch live video while controlling the drone from a distance of up to 30 km. He or she can also control it to hover in place like other drones, or activate the jet engine to fly forward like a tail-sitter.

WaveAerospace did not specify the horsepower of the jet engine, but said it would allow the drone to easily reach speeds of Mach 0.4 (about 300 mph). The engine can be turned on or off while the Huntress II Turbojet is airborne, so it won't burn down the parking lot.

According to WaveAerospace, the new drone can fly in most weather conditions, including hurricanes with wind speeds of up to 73 mph, and in temperatures ranging from -34 to 134 degrees Fahrenheit. Essentially, if a helicopter can fly, the Huntress can fly, but at about 5% the cost and with 50% less space. If the launch site is windy, it will use reverse thrust to maintain its position until takeoff.

The Huntress II Turbojet is useful for a variety of applications, from military operations to search and rescue operations to logistics. WaveAerospace has now raised funding to commercialize the drone and expand production of other aircraft. The company is taking pre-orders for the Huntress II Turbojet and expects to deliver them to buyers by the end of the year.
