"I said I was 30 years old but no one believed me," Duong Thuy Vi shared after winning the bronze medal at the 19th ASIAD. The "wushu beauty queen" had an interesting moment at the stadium when the organizing committee staff mistook her for a young athlete.

This is the fourth ASIAD that Thuy Vi has attended and also the last time she will compete. She won a bronze medal in the sword and spear event this afternoon, September 27. Thuy Vi could not repeat her gold medal achievement in the 2014 Games. However, she is still satisfied with her achievement and considers it an excellent performance.

"When I won the ASIAD gold medal, I was only 21 years old. It's been 9 years. If I had listened to everyone's advice, I could have won the SEA Games, the world championship at 20, and won the ASIAD gold medal at 21. I lacked nothing. If I was afraid of losing face, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am today. I'm happy to have completed my exam," Thuy Vi shared.

Duong Thuy Vi only competed in one event at ASIAD 19: swordsmanship-spearmanship. In the swordsmanship competition this morning, Thuy Vi's score was not high (ranked only 6th). However, in her specialty, spearmanship, the Vietnamese athlete performed excellently and was awarded 9.726 points. Thuy Vi was only behind the host athlete of China, Lai Xiaoxao.

However, calculating the total score of both swordsmanship and spearmanship, Thuy Vi ranked third. She was only 0.01 point behind Kiani Zahra (Iran) - the silver medalist.

"After the exam, I didn't watch other athletes play. I felt very comfortable because I had completed the exam excellently and was very satisfied. I thought to myself that there was still one more exam in the afternoon, so I had to try harder," Thuy Vi shared.

The "Wushu beauty queen" said she did not feel any pressure when she only ranked 6th after the swordplay competition because she did not watch the other athletes' performances. It was only when she opened her phone and read messages from friends and relatives that Thuy Vi learned of her ranking, but that did not affect Thuy Vi's state of concentration. This is the steadfastness of a veteran athlete who has participated in 4 Asian Games.

In the interview after receiving the medal, Thuy Vi also impressed with her fluent Chinese answers. This November, the 30-year-old athlete will defend her master's thesis and that is her last important goal this year.
