G7 leaders issued a joint statement stressing that the transactions between Pyongyang and Moscow violate UN Security Council resolutions.

“We strongly condemn North Korea’s arms exports and Russia’s purchase of ballistic missiles from Pyongyang in direct violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and call on these countries to immediately cease such activities,” the statement said.

Russia's rapprochement with North Korea after being sanctioned by the West over the conflict in Ukraine in 2022 has been met with repeated warnings from the US and South Korea.

Recently, on February 14, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Camille Dawson said that the White House is concerned about the growing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

At a press conference marking the second anniversary of the Indo- Pacific Strategy, Camille Dawson stressed that the US and like-minded partners are concerned and "expressed concern about what appears to be a growing alignment between Pyongyang and Moscow.

Russia and North Korea are close neighbors, important partners and intend to promote relations in all areas.

In mid-January, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui led a delegation on an official visit to Russia.
