On October 25, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the capital Doha, in which the two sides agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

According to the South Korean Presidential Office, the upgraded relations will help the two countries strengthen strategic cooperation, including the process of expanding diplomatic and security communication channels, as well as promoting cooperation in the defense and defense industry sectors.

Notably, South Korea and Qatar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in ammunition and defense industry, which calls for exchanging information on defense industry and establishing a joint committee related to this field.

The bilateral summit took place at Amiri Diwan - the office of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the final day of President Yoon Suk Yeol's two-day visit to Qatar.

Earlier, in an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized: “Becoming the first Korean president to pay a state visit to Qatar is of great significance. I hope this visit will be a priceless opportunity to elevate our bilateral relations to a new level.”
