Chinese automaker Geely brings electric cars to Vietnam for the first time

China's largest private automaker officially joins the electric vehicle game in Vietnam with two new faces.

Geely EX5 has a rounded appearance, competing with C-size electric cars (Atto 2, VF 6...).

Geely EX5 is an electric car model using a new platform, targeting modern urban customers.

The car stands out thanks to its aerodynamic design, optimized interior experience and a range of up to 495 km per full charge. The unique design of the EX5 has won many international awards and received a 5-star Euro NCAP safety certification.

The car can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and supports fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Geely EX5 in Vietnam has two versions: PRO (VND 889 million) and MAX (VND 839 million), with direct discount incentives of VND 61-68 million, free mobile charger and home charger.

The EX5's interior is quite youthful and eye-catching with the highlight being the super large central screen.

Meanwhile, Geely Monjaro is a D-size SUV developed on the CMA technology platform shared with Volvo (also part of the Geely group), with modern design, high-class interior, advanced ADAS safety system and hybrid engine option.

Dubbed as the model that redefines the 1 billion VND SUV segment, Monjaro has a 2.0L turbocharged engine (235 horsepower, 350 Nm), 8-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4-wheel drive on the most powerful version. This configuration allows acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The Monjaro HEV (hybrid) version introduced in Vietnam is priced at 1.099 billion VND. Meanwhile, the Flagship version is priced at 1.199 billion VND, the Premium version is priced at 1.149 billion VND. In the first sale, the car is discounted from 50-100 million VND depending on the version.

Notably, Geely is not the latest Chinese automaker to have an electrified product at the moment, Atto 2 has just been introduced to the market by BYD with a price of 669 million VND.

As a B-class SUV positioned between Dolphin and Atto 3, Atto 2 has dimensions of 4,310 × 1,830 × 1,675 mm, modern interior, and is considered a similar competitor to VinFast VF6.

The Monjaro's appearance has many similarities with its "brother" Volvo XC60.

Similarly, Bestune (FAW Group) has also introduced two imported car lines, Pony (also known as Xiaoma in China) and NAT. Of which, Pony belongs to the micro-sized urban electric vehicle (Micro EV) segment, aiming at daily urban travel needs, while the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Bestune NAT with 5-seat configuration has the strength of a travel range of 425 km per full charge (maximum speed of 140 km/h).
