TPO – The roofs of stilt houses in Xa Phin village, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province are covered with moss all year round. In summer, the moss turns yellow due to sunlight; in winter, low temperatures and high humidity are ideal conditions for moss to grow green again.

Xa Phin village, Phuong Tien commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province is located at the foot of the Tay Con Linh mountain range. The whole village currently has more than 50 households of Dao ethnic people living there for a long time.

Moss covering the roofs all year round has become familiar to the people here. In the summer, the moss will dry and turn yellow due to the sunlight. In the winter, high humidity is the ideal condition for moss to grow well.

The older the stilt house is, the thicker the moss grows, but a thatched roof must be about ten years old to grow green moss.
