To prepare for the two friendly matches with Vietnam and Thailand, the Russian team had their first training session at UTB Novogorsk Stadium. As planned, the Russian team will travel by private plane and arrive in Hanoi at 1:00 p.m. on September 4, then have a practice session before the match with Vietnam on September 5.
In the first training session, coach Valery Karpin said that the Russian team aims to win but also pointed out the difficulties before the match against the Vietnamese team: "Of course we want to have a good result. But we also have to consider having to fly at night, compete in hot weather, high humidity and the field may not be of the highest quality."
The Russian national team has yet to choose a captain as some veteran players such as Miranchuk and Golovin are absent. Coach Valery Karpin emphasized that the Russian national team may play with two lineups in the two friendly matches, so the captaincy is still under consideration by the coaching staff.
In addition to the above problems, Russian fans are also concerned that a long flight with little time to adapt will affect the players' performance, and even cause drowsiness due to the time difference.
Coach Valery Karpin said the time zone did not affect the players' performance much: "The match will take place at 4:00 p.m. Moscow time, I don't think the players will be sleepy at that time."
Despite facing two opponents rated lower, coach Valery Karpin emphasized that the Russian players are very eager to compete. He emphasized that the two upcoming matches will bring great benefits when the team has the opportunity to regroup, remember the requirements of the coaching staff and test themselves in international level matches.
The head coach of the Russian national team also emphasized that he has carefully studied the Vietnamese and Thai national teams. The Russian national team will meet the Vietnamese national team (September 5) and the Thai national team (September 7) respectively.
