Poll: Ms. Harris has an advantage over Mr. Trump

(Dan Tri) - US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is widening the gap with Republican candidate Donald Trump in public opinion polls.

Harris has a 6-point lead over Trump at 40%, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on September 24. The gap between Harris and Trump has widened slightly since a Reuters poll two weeks ago. While national polls like the Reuters/Ipsos poll provide important signals about voter sentiment, the state-by-state results of the Electoral College, especially the seven battleground states, will determine the winner. Polls show Harris and Trump are neck and neck in the battleground states. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found Trump leading in three of the seven states, including Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. Asked which candidate would have a better approach to “ the economy , unemployment and jobs,” about 43% of voters in the Reuters/Ipsos poll picked Trump and 41% picked Harris. Harris entered the race after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July. Trump was widely seen as the frontrunner at the time, partly because he had more experience running the economy . Harris, however, appears to be erasing Trump’s advantage. Both candidates have focused their pledges on the economy , a top concern for American voters. Trump said on Tuesday he would create special manufacturing zones on federal lands. He also promised to raise tariffs on imported goods. Harris, meanwhile, has pledged tax cuts for families with children and higher taxes on corporations. She is expected to unveil new economic proposals this week, although some of her advisers admit time is running out to convince voters of her policies.
