This Egyptian viewpoint was given by Mr. Shoukry during a meeting with United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Geneva (Switzerland).

During the talks, Mr. Shoukry and Mr. Pederson reviewed the gradual and step-by-step approach to resolving the crisis in Syria, which was discussed during meetings held in Jeddah, Amman and the 32nd Arab League (AL) Leaders' Summit in Saudi Arabia.

This approach is also consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

According to Foreign Minister Shoukry, Egypt remains committed to continuing coordination between the Arab Ministerial Committee on Syria and UN Special Envoy Pederson, to promote all efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria.

For his part, Mr. Pederson expressed his desire to coordinate with the Arab Committee on Syria, and appreciated the continuous contact with Egypt to consult on the crisis in Syria.

In early May, the AL restored Syria's membership after more than a decade of suspension following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle Eastern country in 2011.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry , Foreign Minister Shoukry is on a visit to Geneva to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues, especially the conflicts in Sudan and Syria, with representatives of several international organizations.
