EVN Deputy General Director Pham Hong Phuong inspects the construction progress of Lao Cai 500kV substation
At Lao Cai 500kV substation, undertaken by the joint venture of PC1 Group Joint Stock Company and Van Hoi Infrastructure Development Company Limited, the basic construction items have been completed. Specifically, the cable trench system, gate column foundation and primary equipment have been completed and installed.
The circuit breaker is scheduled to be delivered to the site next week for installation. The electrical testing unit is also urgently carrying out testing of the primary equipment at the station, ensuring that everything is ready for operation.
Up to now, package 5 constructed by Phuong Hanh Co., Ltd. and Dong Anh Steel Column Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has completed the erection of columns at 23/42 locations, 14 locations are in the process of erection and the last 5 locations are awaiting implementation. The contractor is expected to complete the erection of columns at 42 locations before August 10.
At the location of VT240 column (Thac Ba commune, Lao Cai province), the contractor is concentrating manpower and equipment, using a 200-ton crane to speed up the installation progress. Also in this commune, VT241 has the largest steel volume on the entire route (443 tons), the concrete foundation work has been completed. Currently, 320 tons of steel columns have been transported to the location and the contractor plans to start installing the columns in the coming days.
Both locations VT240 and VT241 are located on steep, winding terrain, with temporary construction roads winding between mountain slopes. Every time there is heavy rain, the road becomes slippery and muddy, making it impossible to travel by conventional means of transport. Mechanical equipment and materials during transport are at risk of sliding downhill, making it unsafe.

To overcome the difficulties of terrain and weather, contractors have mobilized maximum manpower, equipment and worked overtime, taking advantage of every moment of clear weather to transport materials and equipment. Temporary construction routes were also urgently repaired as soon as the rain stopped. In addition, workers were arranged to eat and rest at the construction site to maintain a continuous construction pace.
Contractors are currently focusing on resolving critical points, applying all measures to speed up the construction progress of the 500kV transmission line project, bringing the project to the "finish line" on time on August 19 as directed by the Prime Minister .
The Lao Cai-Vinh Yen 500 kV Transmission Line Project is a national key project invested by EVN. This is a 500 kV double-circuit transmission line with a total length of 229.5 km, with a total of 468 pole foundation locations. The project passes through 4 provinces including Lao Cai, Yen Bai , Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc with the starting point being the Lao Cai 500 kV station and the ending point being the Vinh Yen 500 kV station. The total investment of the project is more than 7,410 billion VND.
The project plays a very important role in the national power system to release the capacity of hydropower plants in the Northwest region and reserve imported power transmission to ensure the goal of electricity supply and ensure social security in the Northern provinces in general.
