The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on March 12 that it has appointed Hyosung Group Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang as the new chairman of the Korea-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Committee.

According to a VNA correspondent in Seoul, the Korea-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Committee was jointly established by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote exchanges between the two countries and expand bilateral investment and trade opportunities right after the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992.

Since its establishment, the Committee has served as a communication channel between private companies and the government through joint meetings attended by businessmen from both countries, mutual visits by delegations and exchanges of key personnel, contributing to promoting and developing economic cooperation between businesses of the two countries.

Vietnam will become South Korea's third largest trading partner from 2022 to 2023. South Korea is currently the country with the largest cumulative investment in Vietnam. Currently, there are about 8,800 South Korean enterprises operating in the Vietnamese market.

New Chairman Cho Hyun-sang said Vietnam - a country emerging as a hub in the global supply chain - has a mutually beneficial economic relationship with South Korea.

The Korea-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Committee will promote in-depth exchanges with domestic companies and policy-making agencies to further strengthen the business partnership between the two countries and optimize future cooperation directions.

Hyosung Group entered Vietnam in 2007, investing a total of 3.6 billion USD (about 4.8 trillion won) and operating 9 legal entities domestically.

The company has branches in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Nam and several other provinces and cities, contributing to promoting exports and creating jobs for Vietnam./.
