The Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 is attracting public attention with many new products on technology and equipment in the military field. Notably, this event has a booth displaying the first aircraft manufactured in our country by a Vietnamese company.

According to the reporter's research, this is the Flying Legend TP-150 aircraft model, serving basic military training and patrolling, modeled after the Brazilian Tucano 312 training aircraft - a light fighter aircraft.

In fact, the TP-150 aircraft model was designed by Flying Legend Italy, then transferred technology to Flying Legend Vietnam Joint Stock Company for production at the factory in Vinh Phuc province.

The engines, propellers and electronics are from Western countries, the rest including the fuselage structures, wings, landing gear and accessories are completely manufactured and assembled at Flying Legend Vietnam's factory in Vinh Phuc province.

These aircraft will mainly be exported to markets in South America, North Africa and the Asia- Pacific region, mostly used in the air forces of these countries.

The TP-150 stands for Trainer & Patrol. It comes in two versions, the FG and the RG, with two variants, fixed and retractable landing gear. Both are powered by Rotax engines, producing between 114 and 150 horsepower depending on the variant.

The flight range of the first “made in Vietnam” aircraft ranges from 1,130-1,200 km, the maximum altitude is about 7,000 m and the maximum speed is 330 km/h. The fuel consumption announced by the manufacturer is from 24.5-28.3 liters/hour depending on the version.

The RG version is intended for high-level training operations, equipped with retractable landing gear, adjustable propellers, Dynon avionics with displays in the front and rear cockpits, mechanical clocks, radio, transponder and emergency locator beacon (ELT).

The TP-150 FG version is used for initial training of pilot trainees, equipped with propellers with or without variable angle of attack. Other equipment on this version can be mentioned as Dynon avionics system with displays in the front and rear cockpits, mechanical clock system, radio, transponder, emergency locator system (ELT), autopilot system and additional options according to customer requirements.

In terms of weight and payload, the Flying Legend TP-150 has a maximum takeoff weight of 750 kg, a dry weight of 430 kg and a luggage capacity of about 34 kg, divided between two pilots. The front cockpit uses an 11-inch screen to display flight parameters, while the rear cockpit is equipped with a smaller 8-inch screen.

In addition to the version on display that has been tested and meets the aviation standards of many countries, it is not yet licensed for operation in Vietnam. It is expected that the Flying Legend TP-150 model will be exported to some countries in South America, North Africa or Asia.

The gas turbine version is under development and is expected to be tested in the domestic market soon. According to Flying Legend Vietnam, the TP-150 is aimed at countries that need to optimize defense spending while still ensuring military training activities.
