A bomb crater in the village of Petropavlovka

TASS news agency on January 2 quoted information from the Russian Defense Ministry saying that a Russian fighter jet dropped emergency ammunition while flying over the Voronezh region of Russian territory near the Ukrainian border and caused no casualties.
"The emergency ammunition drop from the aircraft occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on January 2 (local time) when a Russian Air Force aircraft was flying over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region. There were no casualties," according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.
The statement said six privately owned homes were damaged and authorities were investigating the incident.
Alexander Gusev, governor of the Voronezh region, said residents of several streets in the village of Petropavlovka had been evacuated to a temporary shelter. Authorities would assess the damage and provide compensation, he said.
The Petropavlovka area is about 150 km from the Ukrainian border. In April last year, the Russian military admitted that a fighter jet had mistakenly dropped a bomb on the city of Belgorod near the Ukrainian border, causing an explosion.
According to AFP, the latest incident occurred on the same day that Russia launched a massive missile attack in Ukraine. Ukrainian military commander Valery Zaluzhny said that Russia launched 99 missiles on January 2 and Ukrainian forces shot down 72 missiles.
"The enemy used 99 air attack weapons, including various types of missiles," he wrote on social media, adding that the Ukrainian Air Force had "destroyed 72 air targets."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the missiles targeted Kyiv and Kharkiv provinces, killing at least four people and injuring 92, and declared that "Russia will have to answer for every life lost".
Russia has not commented on the above information from Ukraine but has always denied accusations against civilians in Ukraine.
