Microsoft has issued a warning about the risk of hackers attacking server software used by government agencies and businesses to share internal documents.

The technology company recommends that customers immediately install the update for security.

In a warning issued over the weekend, Microsoft stated that these vulnerabilities occurred in SharePoint server systems used internally by organizations.

The company noted that SharePoint Online, part of the Microsoft 365 platform, is hosted in the cloud and is not affected by these attacks.

Microsoft said the vulnerability allows hackers to conduct spoofing over the network. Spoofing is the criminal act of impersonating a trusted person, organization or website to deceive systems, users or network devices.

Microsoft Corporation announced that it has released a security update for SharePoint Subscription Edition and recommends that customers install it immediately.

The company also said it is updating SharePoint 2016 and 2019 versions. If customers are unable to enable the recommended malware protection, they should disconnect their servers from the Internet until a security update is available.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it was aware of the attacks and was working closely with federal and private partners, but did not provide further details.

According to The Washington Post - the first newspaper to report the incident, in recent days, unidentified individuals have exploited security vulnerabilities to launch attacks targeting US and foreign agencies and businesses.

The newspaper quoted experts as saying that this attack is called a "zero-day" attack because it targets a previously unknown vulnerability. Currently, tens of thousands of servers are at risk./.
