The trend of spending a lot of money on plane tickets to a far away place just to sleep

Sleep tourism is becoming a trend not only for Gen Z, but also for travelers of all ages.

Exploring local culture, seeking thrills or immersing themselves in concert melodies... are no longer the top priorities when traveling for many GenZ young people.

Instead of flocking to bustling cities, Gen Z and 8X-9X travelers are preferring to travel to sleep.

Instead of traveling to explore and experience, busy young tourists prefer "resort travel".

“This is a great vacation,” travel expert Shimmerlifestyle shared in a TikTok video of her luxury hotel room in Texas. “Sometimes traveling is all about resting and sleeping.”

The trend of “sleep tourism” or “sleep vacation” (sleepcation) is a trip to rest and relax - a popular travel trend among GenZ youth.

A study in February 2024 showed that people aged 18 to 34 often go to bed earlier and sleep longer than other age groups, because they hope that sleep will help improve their physical and mental health.

However, according to Hilton's 2024 Trends Report, it's not just GenZ; travelers of all ages are considering "rejuvenation" as the top reason to travel this year.

According to travel experts at TravelPerk, Gen Z makes up the majority of travelers looking for “relaxing vacations.” Travel experts also claim that 61% of young travelers prioritize “self-care” and “relaxing vacations” for future trips.

Many young couples also choose to travel on vacation to temporarily leave their children and housework behind, to focus on relaxing and recovering their health.

Some young people do not want to waste money on poor quality hotels and choose to enjoy a comfortable vacation right in their own home.

Grasping this trend, many accommodation establishments focus on investing in improving the resting experience for tourists, such as mattresses using AI technology, serving lattes before bedtime... Services exclusively for guests coming to sleep are offered for sale at a price of more than 1,800 USD per stay.
