VnExpressVnExpress13/10/2023

To support Vietnam in developing digital trade, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have launched a cooperation worth 3.25 million USD.

According to the signing of the memorandum of understanding on "Digital Trade Activities in Vietnam" taking place today (October 13), USAID will support the Ministry of Industry and Trade for 3 years to implement programs and plans on digital transformation, e-commerce development, information technology application and digital transformation in trade promotion.

The partnership will also promote public-private dialogue to enable the private sector to participate and contribute to the development of policy and legal frameworks on digital trade.

Ms. Aler Grubbs, USAID Country Director in Vietnam, said this cooperation is the first activity implemented within the framework of the new partnership between the two countries following the recent visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang assessed that the implementation of digital transformation and digitalization of trade activities will continue to expand new growth space, facilitate cross-border trade activities and help Vietnam continue to maintain and improve its export competitiveness in the coming time.

The program encourages SMEs to engage in digital commerce by introducing new business models and facilitating cross-border connections between businesses through the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s DECOBIZ digital trade promotion platform. They also support the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) to promote digital commerce across the country.

According to the e-Conomy SEA report by Google, Temasek, Bain & Company, Vietnam's digital economy will reach a size of 23 billion USD in 2022 and is on track to reach 50 billion USD by 2025, the fastest growth in the region thanks to the breakthrough of the e-commerce industry.
